Haydn’s: Nelson Mass Hob. XXII/11
The Nelson Mass or Missa in Angustiis (Mass for troubled times) was first performed on 23rd September 1798 at Eisenstadt where Haydn was Hofkapellmeister under Esterházy patronage.
There is a helpful review in the Gramophone which recommends Trevor Pinnock’s recording, on Archiv Production, with the English Concert Choir (available on most major streaming services, as is Richard Hickox with the Collegium Musicum 90) Harry Christophers’ The Sixteen have also recorded the mass, available here.
